Cher was born in 1974 in Stratford, Taranaki, New Zealand. At school, Cher gravitated toward an array of creative subjects including art, clothing / textiles, woodwork, metal work, journalism and photography. From highschool, Cher went on to study a diploma in Fine Art. She enjoyed painting and went on to have her first exhibition at the age of eighteen. A collection of paintings and photographs called Burnt Toast. Cher left art school and worked full-time as an artist for two years before moving to London at the age of twenty. Cher completed a BSc Psychology degree as a mature student, graduating in 2006.
On a trip to New Zealand in 2006, Cher was introduced to assemblage art. Inspired to find out more she read about Joseph Cornell, Dale Copeland and many more assemblage artists. Cher did not start producing work until 2008, and has since been included in four exhibitions. The Islington Arts Factory's Summer Salon, where she exhibitied five of her works, along side seventy other artists and at Flaxon Ptootch, with two other artists. Her solo exhibition BOXED IN was held at Forty Hall in Enfield and was a great success. Cher's piece Darwin's Secret was selected for the Cork Street Gallery's open exhibition in August 2010.
